Progress Feels Good

So today I'm at work Yeaa...not! But I'm taking full advantage of my time here. I was blessed enough to snag up a lab assistant job on campus that allows me to do homework 99.5% of the time. Yes! Seriously, I go over and beyond what is required of me and they encourage us to do homework. The only downfall is the low pay...can't win them all lol.

Anyways, last night when I got off of work I pre-pooed with grapeseed, castor, and coconut oil. I was tired and couldn't quite remember whats supposed to go in a pre-poo so I just threw some oil in a container and applied them to my head. I braided my hair in a few sections and put on a shower cap to sleep so I wouldn't get my pillow all oily. Then, I washed my face with diluted castile soap and used my acv as my toner. Finally, I applied EVOO to my face as suggested by Tania. This morning my face didn't have any new bumps or anything so thats the first good sign :)

When I arrived to work I finished my resume. Yes! I'm so happy to be done with it and it looks good. An intelligent, diva I've known for years helped be with it and its looks great! Hit her up she's really good at what she does. We have to support each other ya'll.

It's only 10:15am on a Saturday and I've already:
Prepared my hair for washing/dc
Walked/Fed my doggy
Taken my Vitamins
Sent a Happy BDay text
Polished off my resume

When I get back home I'm going to wash with the black soap I liquefied(It's been setting for 3days now). Then use up the rest of my commercial purchased condish(It's actually a decent product, but I'm still not getting more) mixed with EVOO as my DC. Lastly, I'm going to put in a fresh set of mini two-strand twists. My bf's mom always using a comb so I'm going to try her method this time to get the true longevity of the style plus use a method I sorta made up. Keep ur fingers crossed with me haha.

That is HIGHLY impressive for me. Thank God for another productive day. Have a blessed weekend Loves.

Best Time to be Natural

U know it might just be me, but I LOVE LOVE LOVE being natural in the summer.

True story...two weeks ago during my trip to Florida me and my honey were walking to the grocery store. OMG it was hot and all I could think about was taking a cold shower when I got back to my hotel. The moment I opened the door I headed right to the shower. I completely rinsed my two strand twists with cold water and that was it. I couldn't have dreamed of that when I was relaxed.

On top of that, I can get in the pool or go to a waterpark as much as I want. I can do virtually anything that would be a pain for others and its a breeze for me. :)

I was debating what protective styles I would wear for the summer. I thought about weaving it up and doing crochet braids, sew ins, or sengalese twists. Then I thought long and hard about it. I do not want to be bothered with all that. If I keep my hair faithfully in two strand twists I can easily put my hair in a pony if my neck gets too hot. Plus I won't have to worry about a massive amount of heavy hair on top of my head. Yess!

I still trying to encourage my sister...oops I mean my friend to try it out. I have especially tried to suggest the easy carefree styles like puffs, but she's still resulting to her tired wig. Whatev Im giving up on that one.

In new news

Hope your week is starting off well. Spring is finally here!!!! This coming up weekend is Easter Sunday and I get to go home and do a little celebrating. My family always goes out for breakfast the weekend of my grandma's birthday, which is this one, so I get to see all my fam!!! Also, I get to go admire my new nephew...at only a month old number 9 already has such a personality.

Protective Styling? As much as I love wearing my hair in a puff I need to keep up my protective styling for many reasons. One reason being....I'm working out again! Yea I fell off the wagon last year but Im hopping back on with hopes of losing my tummy. I plan on doing cowashes or rinses(with only water) after my workouts. Also, I have to tell you about my little nightmare. So after three weeks I washed my straighten hair. Let me add it was my first time straightening since being natural. After my first wash my hair felt HORRIBLE. It felt brittle and my curls that I love so much were a hot mess. After complaining to my bestie she enlightened me with the knowledge that I needed to wash my hair a few times for it restore all the way to my natural state...whewww so I thought. At the time, I wasn't at home and I had virtually no products with me. I took a trip to Sally's and bought a moisturizer that I had never used. Thankfully it did the job. Sadly, my hair and texture still doesn't look exactly normal but it feels hydrated. Also, I promised myself that I will be serious about moisturizing . So nightly, I section my hair then moisturize, apply butter, and a light oil. I can already tell a big difference. Now, I'll I have to do is decide on what protective style I want to do for Easter. Low Maintanance High Results

As I've mentioned several times before I try to be religious protective styler. It does get a little boring sometimes, but heck its worth it. I've always wanted to find a low-maintenance style that would help me achieve my hair length goal. I don't talk about my length goal much, becuz its not really important to me.

My whole regime is low-maintenance. One thing I do which a lot of ppl don't get is I do not use combs(Except to part very small sections) or brushes. All of my detangling is done with my fingers. I normally detangle with my dc. This usually is around every two weeks when my hair is worn in protective style. When I'm wearing my hair out I detangle once a wk with a condish. When I talk to ppl about this they feel "well I wouldn't be able to get away with that with my hair." My response to that is at least try it out. The reason that I am so anti-combs/brushes is becuz I absolutely hate seeing my hair come out in locs of hair. When I finger comb, I've noticed I have about 70% less hair in my drain after I wash. Also, I hate hate the sound of the comb/brush yanking at my curls(this is the exact reason I returned my Denman the same wknd I got it).

I decided to take part in the Castor Oil challenge. If you haven't heard peep it out

Honestly I don't desire my hair to be any thicker, but I think I will reap many other benefits like healthy and stronger hair.

And I can't forget about my protective styling. I intend to wear my hair in two strand twist mainly, but depending on how much I like the crochet braid I plan on trying I may alternative. Y'all I've been practicing my cornrowing styles. Also, I've acquire a good habit for myself. Becuz of my lack of free time I will often style my hair in halves. Like this:
I wore my hair like this for a few days.

Then finished the rest:
I plan on having stretched arm pit length hair by May 11, 2010. Right now my hair is slightly passed collar bone length stretched. HHG!!

Breathe in Breathe out....Woosah

I feel like I've been on another planet for a bit. I've been taking care of business and making sure everything is line so my semester can start smoothly. I'm tired and I really wish I could have a mini-vacation before I go back to school...hmm thats sooo not going to happen. The closest thing to that will be maybe going home for my bestie's b-day then a trip w/ my old roomies to U of I South in September.

My face is still breaking out and I'm really starting to believe it started with my frequent cowash sessions. I have slowed down on them and up'd my face regime but the break outs haven't ceased yet. I first used
with warm water. I recently used the CVS brand of apricot scrub that left my face very irritated and I ended up breaking out on my cheeks too. I've heard really good things about Cetaphil from ppl w/ sensitive skin like me so I had to give it a shot. Next, I finally tried Tania's baking soda scrub last night. If you try I will have to warn you...it made my face burn like hell. Lastly, I used my ACV as my toner as normal. This morning my face looked soo much better. I don't know if it was the Cetaphil or the baking soda that did the trick. Either way I'm greatful.

In my hair news, I'm going back into protective season. I started protective styles last year in September and my hair loved me for it. Although, this time I will be using heat occasionally becuz I admit I occasionally miss the days when my hair was wrapped.

Protective Style Addition

My sister is currently transitioning and discovered crochet braids on youtube. This style reminds me a lot a style I wore back in middle school. Basically I believe that its the same style but different type of weave used.

Anyways, right now I don't plain on using this as a style because of the summer heat, but as soon as the fall hits trust I will try.

I want to spice it up and try something like this

Back to protective styling

So I've been slackin on my protective styling for my 100 challenge. I've had my hair out for almost a month and I don't want my hair to suffer. Plus I was really starting to miss my two strands twists...so their back. I'll be keeping my twists up until spring is here.

I normally twist my hair on the wknd and keep them in for 5 days to a wk. I want to practice stretching the styles for at least two weeks.

If u have any suggestions, please shoot them at me.

Protective Style Time?!

So I think I might have a little problem. I live in Indiana :( and its starting to get cold outside. Everywhere I read, "Protective styles protective styles protective styles." Well I don't know about you but I hate wearing hairstyles for more than a couple of days. Thats the whole point of wearing your hair in protective styles. It's supposedly great for your hair because your not pulling and bothering your delicate all the time, your ends stay protected. I've heard, "The longer you keep your hair braided..the healthier it gets." It sounds good, but I can't do the long style thing.

I washed my hair on Saturday and I could not think of a way to style my hair. I think I have discovered that the front my hair(3c) does not work well being styled wet. At the time, I was trying to fight with my hair and flat twist it anyway. Of course, it didn't work.

I opted to coiling my hair like I did last week(pic are from last week). It turned out nice...but is coiling hair really a protective style?
